African American Music Trails of Eastern North Carolina

Welcome to the temporary African American Music Trails of Eastern North Carolina website. While we finish building the new website — a guide to music sites, artists and traditions — we invite you to explore here.

The African American Music Trails of Eastern North Carolina project is a celebration of jazz, rhythm and blues, funk, gospel, blues, church music, rap, marching bands – and the musicians and places in eastern North Carolina where music has been a part of family, church and community life for generations. A cluster of eight contiguous counties including Edgecombe, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, Nash, Pitt, Wayne and Wilson are featured. Distinct and powerful African American music traditions are also abundant across North Carolina.
