Arts in Communities

The North Carolina Arts Council works with local arts councils and community arts organizations in all 100 counties to create and sustain innovative arts programs. The scope and size of these organizations vary widely. Local arts councils strive to develop, promote and coordinate the arts at the community level. In addition to grants programs, the staff offers a number of services to the field, including:

  • Consultations with organizations
  • Board development training
  • Strategic planning
  • Regional workshops for Grassroots Arts Program Designated County Partners
  • Biannual statewide local arts council retreat

The Arts in Communities program also provides resources to support rural areas that are utilizing their rich cultural traditions to develop sustainable place-based economic development projects. Creative economy projects connect an area’s living traditions to cultural travelers and residents providing opportunities to explore, learn and enjoy these regional traditions.
