General Artist Opportunities
National Museum of the American Indian, Washington, D.C.
The National Museum of the American Indian's Indigenous Contemporary Arts Program offers support to a wide range of arts activities with the goal of increasing the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of contemporary Native American arts. Applications are now being accepted for NMAI's Exhibitions and Publications program and Expressive Arts program.

ArtsLink
ArtsLink Project awards provide support to U.S. artists, curators, presenters and arts organizations undertaking projects in Eastern and Central Europe, Russia, Central Asia and the Caucasus. Applicants must be working with an artist or organization in that region and projects should be designated to benefit participants and audiences in both the U.S. and the host country. In 2010 applications will be accepted from individual artists, presenters and nonprofit arts organizations working in dance, music, theater and literature.

Blue Sky Project seeks artist proposals for 2010 summer residency. Creative, professional visual artists, artist-activists, filmmakers, writers, dancers, musicians, theater performers and other creative media artists are encouraged to apply.

Center Stage Theatre, Goldsboro

Literary Artists
Gilman School, Baltimore, Md.
The Reginald S. Tickner Writing Fellowship is a one-year, 32-hour per week position at Gilman School. The salary is approximately $30,000 with a full benefits package available. The 15th Tickner Writing Fellowship will be awarded to a writer in fiction, poetry, playwriting or creative nonfiction. The Pearl Hogrefe Creative Writing Fellowship offers a talented writer one academic year to study creative writing full time at Iowa State University and focus on his/her creative work without distraction. Fellowship support is contingent upon the student's maintaining satisfactory grades.

The Pen Translation Fund, New York, N.Y.
The Pen Translation Fund provides grants to support the translation of book-length works of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry or drama that have not previously appeared in English or have appeared only in an egregiously flawed translation. There are no restrictions on the nationality or citizenship of the translator, but the works must be translated into English. The fund seeks to encourage translators to undertake projects they might not otherwise have had the means to attempt.

James Merrill House, Stonington, Conn.
The James Merrill House Writer-in-Residence program preserves James Merrill's residence in Stonington, Conn., as a tribute to him and as a cultural asset to the local community. The fellowship provides living and working space to a writer in search of a quiet setting to complete a project of literary or academic merit. Residencies in the past have included poetry readings and workshops offered to members of the community, as well as visits to the local high schools' creative writing programs. We encourage applicants to devise their own contributions as imaginatively and variously as they are inclined. Housing for the residency is available for full or half years.

Stanford University, Stanford, Calif.
The William Saroyan International Prize for Writing is given by Stanford University Libraries in partnership with the William Saroyan Foundation and recognizes newly published works of fiction and nonfiction with a $5,000 award for the winner in each category. The prize is designed to encourage new or emerging writers and honor the Saroyan literary legacy of originality, vitality and stylistic innovation.

North Carolina Literary Review and North Carolina Writers' Network
The Doris Betts Fiction Prize is open to any writer who is a legal resident of North Carolina or a member of the North Carolina Writers' Network. Submit stories electronically via the N.C. Literary Review's online submission process at www.nclr.ecu.edu/submit.html.

The Big Read/National Endowment for the Arts
The Big Read is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations to conduct month-long, community-wide reads between September 2010 and June 2011. Organizations selected to participate in The Big Read will receive a grant ranging from $2,500 to $20,000, access to online training resources, educational and promotional materials, inclusion of your organization and activities on The Big Read Web site, and the prestige of participating in a highly visible national program.

Seton Hill University, Greensburg, Penn.
Seton Hill University seeks published genre novelist (priority for popular mystery/crime/suspense writer; will also consider romance or fantasy author) for tenure-track position in our low-residency M.F.A. program in Writing Popular Fiction, starting June 2010. M.F.A. is required (Ph.D. preferred). National Society of Arts and Letters
The Virginia/North Carolina chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters announces a regional short story competition with prizes of $1,000, $600 and $200. First prize winner travels at chapter expense to national finals in Clearwater, Fla., in May where the top national prize is $10,000.

Visual Artists
Process Impact, Murray, Ky.
Process Impact announces a call to artists, open to all media, including documentation of site specific installation work. Artists must be 18 years or older and currently enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate program to submit. The work must be original and completed within the past three years. Current Murray State University students, faculty and staff are not eligible to submit.

The City of Palo Alto is requesting proposals from qualified professional artists to submit proposals for the design and provision of a fountain to replace the existing fountain on California Avenue.

City of Gastonia/Gaston Arts Council
Keep Gastonia Beautiful Art Commission seeks to commission an artwork or artworks for the Downtown District of Gastonia. The artwork will be sited in a prominent outdoor location or locations throughout the downtown area. The artwork should create excitement and interest for the downtown community and provide an interactive opportunity for all ages.

Miami-Dade Art in Public Places, Fla.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, in collaboration with Art in Public Places, seeks an artist or team of artists to create a permanent, site-specific installation that will transform the existing façade of the Fire Rescue headquarters facility into a new media installation that artistically depicts the activities of the department, welcomes the community and employees, and creates a public identity for the headquarters and training facility. During the proposal design phase, the shortlisted artists will be asked to consider and/or relocate the existing Fallen Firefighter statue.

Los Angeles Center for Digital Art
The LACDA 2010 International Juried Competition is open to all digital art and photography. The selected winner receives 10 prints up to 44x60 inches on canvas or museum quality paper (approximately a $1,500-$2,000 value) to be shown in a solo exhibition in our main gallery February 11–March 6, 2010. The show will be widely promoted and will include a reception for the artist. Five second place winners will be included in upcoming group shows.

City of Norfolk, Va.
The Norfolk Public Art Commission and the Light Rail Art Planning Committee seek to commission artists to design and create windscreen artwork for the light rail stations. Up to nine artists are needed to create artwork within the windscreens for nine of the light rail stations. Each station is located in a unique area of Norfolk, commercial areas as well as neighborhoods. An artist will be hired and compensated a $5,000 design fee for each station and $5,000 to fabricate two three-section panels. Artists may be selected to work on one or more stations.

City of Norfolk, Va.
The Norfolk Public Art Commission and the Light Rail Art Planning Committee seek to commission artists to design and create pavement artwork for the light rail stations. Up to five artists are needed to create artwork for medallions in the pavement at five of the light rail stations. Each station is located in a unique area of Norfolk, commercial areas as well as neighborhoods.

City of Campbell, Calif.
The City of Campbell announces a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) from artists interested in creating, fabricating and installing public artwork for the Stojanovich Family Park Project. The Stojanovich Family Park Project is a new proposed park in the City of Campbell within a high density residential area. The property is currently vacant and has never been developed, having been part of a fruit processing and drying facility supporting the city's orchard industry.

City of Portsmouth, N.H.
The City of Portsmouth, N.H., is seeking an artist or team of artists to design, build and install a work of art at the new fire station on Lafayette Road. The fire department would like a single piece of new art to be installed at the new station; however, proposals with more than one piece of art will be considered, as appropriate. The selected artist or team will receive a commission of up to $32,000.

Maine Arts Commission, Augusta
The Maine Arts Commission is making a call to all artists or artist teams living in the U.S. to submit proposals to design, create and install artwork at Peaks-Kenny State Park in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine.

Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, Providence, R.I.
RIPTA is accepting proposals for Hope Street Bus Shelter. The goal of the Hope Street Bus Shelter project is to enhance the experience of those traveling through Hope Street by providing seating and shelter from the weather while introducing unique design elements to the streetscape environment. The one-of-a-kind bus shelter will reflect the area's design and cultural heritage. The scope of this project is to add a favorite piece of neighborhood art while enhancing the experience of the transit user.

Flat Rock Playhouse, Flat Rock
All artists of fine, contemporary craft are invited to apply to first Flat Rock Playhouse Craft Show. This is a juried art show and all applicants will be emailed of jury decision during the week of February 15. The craft show will be held at the YouTheatre of Flat Rock Playhouse.

Elsewhere Collaborative, Greensboro
Elsewhere seeks artists, curators, scholars, designers and creative people to apply for the 2010 residencies. Elsewhere residencies invite experimental creators to join a collaborating community in utilizing their immense collection of objects, no longer for sale and instead circulating internally, as material or inspiration for site-specific projects that become part of an endlessly transforming environment of objects and works. Artists live and work within interactive installations. Residency fellowship funding for travel, room and board are now available in exchange for hosting an educational workshop during the residency.

Cultural Arts Association of Walton County, Fla.
The 22nd ArtsQuest Fine Arts Festival will be held in the gulf front town of Seaside, Fla., May 7–9. The juried fine arts show is accepting 100 artists in 12 categories, and $10,000 will be awarded. One juried artist will be chosen as poster winner.

The 25th Annual Tallahassee International is now accepting entries. The Tallahassee International is an annual juried competition organized by Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts. City of New York
The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs Percent for Art Program in conjunction with the Department of Design and Construction and Department of Transportation invites artists to submit qualifications and letters of interest to be considered for panel review and the opportunity to be considered as finalists for the commission of permanent artwork for DOT plaza sites throughout the city.

Portrait Society of America, Tallahassee, Fla.
The Portrait Society of America is hosting its 12th Annual International Juried Portrait Competition/Show featuring today's finest portraiture and figurative works. The top 15 selected finalists will showcase their original works at the annual conference April 22–25, 2010, outside Washington, D.C., for final judging. More than $55,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded. All mediums accepted.

City of Palm Desert, Calif.
The City of Palm Desert announces a call for public art for the El Paseo Invitational Exhibition. The theme for the exhibition will be Desert Light. A $2,500 honorarium will be provided for each selected work. Artwork will be installed October–November 2010 and remain on site until November 2012.

Cape Fear Studios announces the 2nd Annual National 2D Competition. This competition is open to all artists 18 or older in the U.S. Best in show will be awarded $1,000. The exhibition will be on display April 23–May 26 in the Cape Fear Studios Gallery in Fayetteville.

Filmmakers/Presenters
Southern Arts Federation
Southern Arts Federation is now accepting applications from organizations to bring the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers to their communities. Southern Circuit is the nation's only regional tour of independent filmmakers, providing communities with an interactive way of experiencing independent film. Southern Circuit host venues will receive six independent films and their filmmakers, paid travel for filmmakers (airfare, car rental, lodging and meals), promotional materials provided by SAF and a grant to provide a $300 stipend to each visiting filmmaker.

Full Frame Film Festival, Durham
The Garrett Scott Documentary Development Grant funds first-time documentary makers for travel and accommodations at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival April 8–11, 2010. For four days, grant recipients will be given access to films, participate in master classes and be mentored by experienced filmmakers. Two filmmakers will be chosen for the grant.
