The N.C. Arts Council is pleased to share the following opportunities for artists that have recently been submitted to us. Please contact the organization listed if you have any questions.

The Arts Council does not endorse or recommend any specific opportunities, but provides this list for information only. We encourage artists to research each opportunity thoroughly before applying. Artist opportunities may be submitted to jennifer.huggins@ncdcr.gov.

Performing Arts

The ArtsCenter, Carrboro
The ArtsCenter announces a call for submissions for the Ninth Annual 10 by 10 Festival in the Triangle, an international festival of new, 10-minute plays. A panel of judges will select 10 plays to showcase at The ArtsCenter Thursday, July 8, through Sunday, July 25.

Carteret Writers announces its 19th Annual Writing Contest. Categories include flash fiction, fiction, nonfiction, poetry and children's literature. Cash prizes are awarded in each category. Members and nonmembers are eligible to enter.

Visual Arts

The LoDi Project, Raleigh
To celebrate Black History Month and the 50th anniversary of the start of the sit-in demonstrations in North Carolina, The LoDi Project is hosting an exhibition entitled Legends, Heroes and Leaders Friday, Feb. 12, through Sunday, Feb. 14. LoDi is seeking art and artists inspired by the courageous men and women who fought, and still are fighting, for equal and civil rights for all Americans. Artists who apply may address this theme by using a variety of media and multiple techniques, such as video, photography, digital design, graffiti, calligraphy and painting.

Cultural Arts Association of Walton County, Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.
ArtsQuest Fine Arts Festival is accepting 100 artists in 12 categories for its 22nd festival Friday, May 7, through Sunday, May 9. Cash awards totaling $10,000 will be given. One juried artist will be chosen as poster winner.

Palm Beach County, Fla.
Palm Beach County's Art in Public Places program is seeking artist(s) to work with county officials in creative site master planning and design of project features including an open-air sheltered pavilion with seating, landscaped plazas and a bell tower to display a 1000-pound bronze commemorative bell recently cast to honor Palm Beach County's centennial celebration (1909–2009). Donor recognition will be integral to the plaza design.

Town of Davidson
The Town of Davidson is accepting applications from artists who wish to exhibit at the 2010 Art on the Green festival Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25. Artists must exhibit original work attributed solely to the demonstrating artist. This popular event brings crowds to Davidson to enjoy food, live music and art. This juried art festival features booths filled with top quality art works and demonstrations from artists throughout the region.

Pitt County Arts Council, Greenville
The City of Greenville and the Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge are soliciting proposals from qualified artists for a year-long installation of a public art piece for the Streetscape Enhancement at the corner of Reade Circle and Cotanche Street in Greenville, N.C. This is a high visibility area within downtown Greenville and the entrance of East Carolina University.

City of Seattle, Wash.
Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs seeks an artist to develop site-integrated artwork for the First Hill Streetcar, a new two-mile Seattle streetcar line. The call is open to professional artists residing in the U.S. The selected artist will work with Seattle Department of Transportation staff and consultants from the early stages of design through construction.

Letters of interest and qualifications are requested from artists both regional and national working in a variety of media who are interested in participating in an open competition for works of public art for the new Millcreek Community Center located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Millcreek Community Center has many functions and houses a recreation center, senior center and library.

Artists are invited to enter the First Annual Save the Arts People's Choice Award. All painters, sculptors, architects and photographers above the age of 18 are eligible to participate. Entrants submit a web URL of their art and the top 10 submissions will be featured on the Save the Arts Web site on Friday, March 5 for public vote.

The City of Hillsboro, Oregon, seeks to acquire a temporary public artwork for an existing, transitional outdoor space. The site is a former fountain that is no longer utilized for its original purpose. The city desires to transform the site into a temporary (18 months to two years) public art feature, while waiting for new construction to begin on the site.
