The N.C. Arts Council is pleased to share the following opportunities for artists that have recently been submitted to us. Please contact the organization listed if you have any questions.
The Arts Council does not endorse or recommend any specific opportunities, but provides this list for information only. We encourage artists to research each opportunity thoroughly before applying. Artist opportunities may be submitted to jennifer.huggins@ncdcr.gov.

General Artist Opportunities
Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County
A select group of Latino artists, organizations and people who advocate for the arts in Charlotte is putting together a Latino artist directory to identify the many talents that the community has to offer. Latino artists who would like to connect to available resources, find career development opportunities and/or receive training and support, are encouraged to visit www.plcmc.org/LatinoArtists/default-eng.asp to submit an application. The first orientation will be open to all artists Saturday, March 6, at the Mint Museum in Charlotte. Artists will receive a formal invitation once they submit the online application.

Performing Arts
NC State University Theatre, Raleigh
Auditions for TheatreFest repertory at NC State University Theatre will be held Thursday, Feb. 25, and Friday, Feb., 26 beginning at 7 p.m. This year's shows center around the mysteries of the beloved author Agatha Christie. Auditions for TheatreFest are by appointment only. Please prepare two one-minute contrasting monologues (a comedy and a drama). Actors do not need to be NC State students — all are welcome.

NEA Arts Journalism Institute in Theater and Musical Theater, Los Angeles, Calif.
Applications are now open for writers, editors or producers who report on theater and musical theater, for an 11-day fellowship at USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism in Los Angeles Monday, May 17, through Thursday, May 27. This is an intensive program of practical experience, instruction and discussion of major issues in theater and arts journalism.

Lee Street Theatre, Salisbury
Lee Street Theatre is accepting submissions (plays) for the second annual Ten-Minute Festival: A Six-Pack of Plays to be held in June. This year Lee Street Theatre is looking for plays that meet the following criteria: a comedy set in a bar that runs no longer than 10 minutes with no more than three characters; and a work that has yet to see production on any other stage.

Literary Arts
Nâzım Hikmet Poetry Festival, Cary
The second annual Nâzım Hikmet Poetry Festival will be held Sunday, April 18. Interested poets are invited to submit their poems. The selected poems will be published online at the festival's Web site as well as in the festival chapbook, and the poets will be invited to read their winning poems and introduce their poetry at the festival. Each finalist will receive an award of $100.

Burlington Writers' Club
Burlington Writers' Club annual spring contest is open to residents of Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Durham, Guilford, Orange, Randolph or Rockingham counties and who are 18 years of age or older. Writers may submit one entry in each of the seven categories.

Wildacres, Little Switzerland
Three full writing scholarships are available at Wildacres for the week of July 10 through 17 and include room, meals, classes, programs and socials in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Writers that are serious about their writing, between the ages of 21 and 40, and have not previously attended Wildacres are encouraged to apply.

McCormick Foundation, Washington, D.C.
The McCormick New Media Women Entrepreneurs program is a unique initiative addressing opportunity and innovation, recruitment and retention for women in journalism by spotlighting their ingenuity and entrepreneurial abilities. Funding is available for start-ups only; projects must launch within 10 months; projects must have a plan for continuing after initial funding has ended; projects must have journalistic value; projects may be independent or housed within traditional media. Personal blogs or one-time documentaries will not be funded.

Writers' Group of the Triad, Greensboro
The Seventh Biennial Greensboro Awards for Poetry and Short Fiction is open to international entry with prizes of $250 for first, $150 for second and $100 for third in both categories.

Vero Beach Museum of Art is accepting exhibition proposals on an ongoing basis. The exhibition schedule is planned a minimum of two years in advance. Exhibitions are carefully balanced to offer a wide variety of programming and content.

Norfolk Public Art Commission, Va.
The Norfolk Public Art Commission seeks to commission an artist to design a commemoration that will tell the story and educate viewers of the history and importance of the End of the Massive Resistance. The commemoration will be located within the new Government Center located at St. Paul's Boulevard and Main Street adjacent to Norfolk City Hall.

Bellevue Sculpture Exhibition, Bellevue, Wash.
For its tenth biennial exhibition, the Bellevue Sculpture Exhibition is expanding to include outdoor visual arts installations as well as indoor and outdoor sculpture. Themes include sustainability and our vision for a future art walk. There are opportunities for as many as 27 outdoor sculptures, five installations and 18 indoor sculptures. Sites include Bellevue's Downtown Park, City Hall, and several locations along a 3/4 mile route connecting the two. Participating artists receive honoraria, shipping and mileage reimbursement, insurance and free installation.

Denver International Airport, Denver, Colo.
Denver International Airport and the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs announce a request for qualifications for a project at the Regional Jet Facility. The Regional Jet Facility encompasses a lobby, seating areas and gates utilized by two airlines that serve many destinations in Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota and North Dakota. The project site will be a series of up to 20 walls scattered throughout the seating and gate areas of the building.

Denver Office of Cultural Affairs, Colo.
The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs seeks to commission one or more artists or teams of artists to create site-specific artwork for the Central Park Boulevard/I-70 Interchange Public Art Project. The project is open to all artists in the U.S. working in all media and materials, but experience working on projects of this scope is recommended.

Town of Chapel Hill
Photographers are invited to apply for the juried Natural Selections Ecological Photography Competition & Exhibition that will be on display Monday, April 12, through Saturday, May 30, at University Mall in Chapel Hill. The competition is open to anyone 18 years of age and older residing in the counties of Orange, Durham, Wake, Chatham and Alamance.

Utah Department of Community and Culture
Utah Public Art Program and Mountainland Applied Technology College are requesting letters of interest and qualifications from artists interested in creating site-specific art for the first facility on the new campus in the Thanksgiving Point development area of North Utah Valley in Lehi, Utah.

Wake Forest Area Artists' Studio Tour, Wake Forest
Wake Forest Area Artists' Studio Tour is looking for local artists to join the 2010 tour. An organizational meeting will be held Tuesday, March 9, at 7 p.m. at The Fork's Cafeteria, 339 S. Brooks St., Wake Forest.

City of Seattle, WA
The City of Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation and Seattle Public Utilities, seeks two artists for public art projects — one for Maple Leaf Reservoir Park and one for West Seattle Reservoir at Westcrest Park. Two artists will be selected from the same pool of applicants and each will be assigned to one of the two projects. The call is open to professional artists residing in the U.S.

N.C. Seafood Festival, Morehead City
The N.C. Seafood Festival will be hosting its 14th annual photography contest that will be displayed in the traveling photography exhibit from April through December across eastern N.C. All photographs must be taken in N.C. and reflect the working seafood industry. The 2010 contest will be divided into two categories: semi-professional and amateur. Cash prizes will be awarded in each category.

Digital Graffiti, Alys Beach, Fla.
Digital Graffiti is the world's first projection art festival. The third annual festival will be held Saturday, June 12. Artists use the latest technologies to project original video creations and interactive exhibits onto the white walls and rooftops of Alys Beach, Florida. Digital artists from around the world will compete for more than $10,000 in cash prizes.

Echotrope, Omaha, Nebr.
Game Play is a juried exhibition that explores artists' interests in and inspirations from games. Eligible entries include digital and non-digital work ranging from experimental to traditional approaches including drawing, painting, printmaking, book arts, sculpture, interactive works, video, artist designed games, character design, game modifications, game interventions and performance documentation The exhibition is curated by Echotrope, a nomadic arts group located in Omaha, Nebraska, and will be held Monday, April 12, through Friday, May 21.

Edmonton Arts Council, Alberta, Canada
The Edmonton Arts Council announces a call to artists for a site-specific public art work for two locations: the new Edmonton Police Service Southwest Division and the Quesnell Bridge/Whitemud Freeway. The call is open to all Canadian and international visual artists.

Utah State University

Lancaster County Art Association, Pa.
The 2010 Lancaster County Art Association National Juried Exhibition is accepting entries in the following categories: oil and acrylic, watercolor, photography, sculpture and ceramics, pastel, and mixed media. The exhibition will be held Sunday, June 19, through Thursday, July 22.

Newport Arts Festival, Newport, R.I.
Newport Arts Festival announces a call to artists in the categories of pottery, fiber, glasswork, jewelry, metal, photography, sculpture, painting, wood, works on paper, digital art and mixed media. The festival is a juried show of fine and functional art held in the heart of Newport's downtown waterfront Saturday, Aug. 28, and Sunday, Aug. 29. The festival also features two full days of live music from Celtic to jazz, children's activities and a café.
