General Artist Opportunities

N.C. Arts Council, Regional Artist Project Grants Program
This program provides the opportunity for regional consortia of local arts councils to award project grants to artists in their regions. These grants support professional artists in any discipline and at any stage in their careers to pursue projects that further their professional development.

Penland School of Crafts and Creative Capital Foundation

Penland and the Creative Capital Professional Development Program are presenting two workshops for artists in western North Carolina in September: a one-day workshop focused on strategic planning and marketing/public relations on Thursday, September 10; and a two-and-a-half day workshop in self-management, strategic planning, fundraising and marketing/public relations, September 11–13. Creative Capital is nationally known for its artist training curricula and faculty.

Performing Artists

Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership
A special six-week pilot program called "Franklin Street Comes Alive!," is underway in Chapel Hill to encourage more people to visit downtown and support local businesses while enjoying a welcoming and musical environment along the way. Through this program local artists are hired to play live music or perform entertainment in designated areas along the sidewalk on Franklin Street on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7–10 p.m. This program will run through mid-September.

Literary Arts

The Writers' Workshop, Asheville
The Writer's Workshop is sponsoring the "Hard Times Writing Contest." Write about a difficult experience in your life, how you overcame this obstacle, and how you were changed by it. Winning stories will be chosen for originality and creative writing style. Stories should be previously unpublished and should not exceed 4,000 words. Multiple entries are accepted. Cash awards for first, second and third place winners.

Anderbo.com
Anderbo.com is seeking to post one unpublished entire novel on its Web site by December 1 for at least the six months. The Web site will look at the first 30 pages (up to 10,000 words) of your e-manuscript and decide within sixty days if they want to see more. There is no reading fee and all literary rights will remain with the author. An honorarium will be paid to the selected author.

Visual Artists

N.C. Arts Council and Duke Homestead, Durham
Craft artists are invited to sell their wares at the Tobacco Harvest and Hornworm Arts Festival which will take place September 12 at Duke Homestead. It is free to participate in this outdoor festival. Artists will need to supply their own tables, tents and other set-up materials. Space availability is limited. Artists will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. All effort will be made to ensure that craft forms are equally represented.

Cabarrus Arts Council, Concord
The Cabarrus Arts Council announces the Cabarrus Art Guild Juried Exhibition open to artists 18 years or older residing in Cabarrus, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union Counties. Works to be considered must be hand-delivered to the Cabarrus Arts Council Galleries (Historic Courthouse) at 65 Union Street South, Concord, N.C. on Aug. 14 or Aug. 17.

Associated Artists announces a call for entries for the national juried exhibition "Cultural Crossroads." Ohio Arts Council
The Ohio Percent for Art Program and Cleveland State University (CSU) invite national artists to submit digital images of past work for consideration of a new commissioned work. The artwork should reflect Education and Human Services (Nursing, Education and Counseling) in a non-literal, abstract way. It should be contemporary, elegant and dynamic with a sense of movement and energy.

The Town of Chapel Hill
The 2009-10 Sculpture Visions Exhibition is open to all artists creating original 3D artwork of a scale and material suitable for outdoor display. Artwork by selected artists will be displayed in outdoor public spaces in Chapel Hill from October 2009–October 2010.Selected artists will receive a $1,500 honorarium for the exhibition of their work.

Ormond Memorial Art Museum, Ormond Beach, Fla.
The Ormond Memorial Art Museum is seeking submissions from artists to design, build and install an outdoor, site-specific, 3D tribute to veterans who served in the Korean Conflict. The Caldwell Arts Council is seeking artists to participate in the annual Satie's Holiday Show & Sale, December 3–24. The Dayton International Peace Museum, Dayton, Ohio
"The Art of Peace" exhibition will commemorate the 14th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Accords that resulted in an end to the Bosnia-Herzegovina conflict. The focus is on nonviolent solutions that can be used to foster peace. The exhibition will run October 22–November 1.
