The N.C. Arts Council is pleased to share the following opportunities for artists that have recently been submitted to us. Please contact the organization listed if you have any questions.

Editor's note: This edition of Artist Opportunities will be the only issue for the month of December. We will resume our bi-weekly Artist Opportunities newsletter in January.

General Artist Opportunities

The Everglades National Park, Homestead, Fla.
The Everglades National Park artist-in-residency program offers visual artists and writers the opportunity to live and work in the unique environment of the Everglades. The works completed under this program will contribute to the public understanding and appreciation of Everglades National Park.

Southern Spaces
Southern Spaces—a peer-reviewed, online journal exploring the real and imagined places of the American South and their connections with the wider world—announces a call for proposals for essays, photo essays, original documentaries and multimedia projects about migration, mobility and exchange in the regional and global reaches of the South. Submission requires a 400–600 word proposal.

HUB-BUB, Spartanburg, S.C.
HUB-BUB Artists-in-Residence Program is an 11-month opportunity for emerging young visual artists and creative writers between the ages of 20 and 35. The program allows three visual artists and one writer to "live free and create" for a year while working for a grassroots community arts movement. Residents receive a beautiful, rent-free apartment and bi-monthly stipend in exchange for 10–20 hours/week work for the program.

Literary Artists

Brave Hearts, Topeka, Kans.
Brave Hearts, a quarterly magazine, seeks short manuscripts (up to 900 words), photographs, prayers and related material on special inspirational subjects for each issue. A nominal payment is made upon publication and an additional $5 is paid for each item used on the Web site.

Artists' Fellowship, New York, N.Y.
The Artists' Fellowship assists professional fine artists (painters, graphic artists, sculptors) and their families in times of emergency, disability or bereavement. Assistance is given without expectation of repayment. Membership is not required to receive assistance.

St. Petersburg Clay Company, St. Petersburg, Fla.
The St. Petersburg Clay Company (SPCC) is accepting applications for its Artist-in-Residence Program. Those selected for the one-year program will be required to work at least 12 hours per week at SPCC. In exchange, residents receive 24-hour access to the facilities, discounted firings, display space for finished work, teaching opportunities, free admission to workshops and studio space.

Islip Art Museum, Glenwood Landing, N.Y.
The galleries in the Carriage House at the Islip Art Museum are transformed into working space during the winter months. Three artists will be selected to use the space as a studio from February though April 2010. Each artist will be given a large, private working area with 24-hour access to the building and a monthly stipend.
