Let’s catch up with a few of the N.C. writers making a splash on the literary scene this summer and continuing our state’s rich literary tradition: Poet Laureate Jaki Shelton Green, spoken word artist Dasan Ahanu, award-winning writers lifting the veil on disability experiences, and some page-turner summer reads.

  • N.C. Poet Laureate Jaki Shelton Green graces the cover of Behold Magazine’s June issue. Inside is a feature story about our “laureate of global influence”.
  • Jaki’s poem “Wishing” is also featured in the June issue of Walter Magazine
  • Durham-based scholar and poet Dasan Ahanu will serve a year-long residency at N.C. State as part of a community engagement project funded by South Arts. Dasan served as the North Carolina Piedmont Poet Laureate in 2023.
  • The July issue of the North Carolina Literary Review will feature North Carolina Disability Literature. “We are especially proud that the issue features the work of many artists and writers with disabilities and that it highlights disability experience,” said Casey Kayser, guest editor.
